Have you ever called someone blindly and asked for an interview? How did that go? Also--what is the gutsiest thing you have done for a job? I am in the situation where an acquaintance is telling me to blindly call the head of production of a major company and ask for a job. Advice?

Acutally I have done that once. It was with a company that works with underwater photography. He was actually impressed by the blind inquiry. It ended up not working out but for completely unrelated reasons. But I think you should totally do it. Asking somebody for a job is like saying I think you and your department are awesome, and everybody likes to hear that.
